Executive Summary
The Hope Social Protection Organization (HOSPO) conducted a mobilization session in Las’anod to
address child safety risks from unexploded ordnance (UXO) and unsecured wells. Led by Executive
Director Abdimalik Mohamud, the session was entirely volunteer-driven, with no external funding.
Community members participated actively, engaging in discussions, developing initial safety protocols,
and establishing a foundation for ongoing education on child protection.

Background on Child Protection in Las’anod
Las’anod faces significant child protection issues due to UXO and unsecured wells, particularly in light of
ongoing instability. Children are vulnerable to both accidental injuries and health risks. There is a
pressing need for sustained community engagement and education to mitigate these risks.
